Castaic Lake, Lower Lagoon (Lot 6) 32132 Castaic Lake Drive, CA 91384 [map]

Long Course Tri
1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run

Olympic Distance Tri
1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10k run (1500 meters/24.8 miles/6.2 miles)

The Sport Chalet Renegade M3 Tri races are hard, some past participants might say too hard. The long course triathlon has a mass start swim, the bike ride travels over rough mountain roads that have epic climbs and the run is hot and dusty. These two triathlons are NO JOKE and IF YOU FINISH you’ll have a story that you can tell your grandchildren. No one has ever tattooed our race logo on their leg but that doesn’t make this race any less respectable. Come out and see if you are ready to Conquer the Mountain.

Both the half Ironman distance and the Olympic distance triathons will be treated to a beautiful calm swim in Castaic Lake. The Sport Chalet M3 Tri's have a “European Style” bike course with epic views of the local mountains. The bike course starts and finishes at Castaic Lake. The run will travel on paths and roads through the Castaic Lake Recreation Area and has awesome views of the lake.

Finishers will be part of a fabulous celebration that includes post event music and refreshments. All finishers will get a finishers medal and event technical T-Shirt. You don’t want to miss Los Angeles’ only long distance triathlon.

Sport Chalet is the Title Sponsor of the Magic Mountain Man Triathlon.  We are thrilled to have them on board and encourage you to check out Sport Chalet for all your triathlon and running gear needs.

All levels are welcome and it is FREE, all we ask is that you RSVP so we know how many to expect.  Meet at the Castaic Sports Complex, just down the road from Castaic Lake for free parking, and be ready to roll by 7:00am. RSVP to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 949.975.1812.

  • Saturday, July TBA (30 Miles) Start at Castaic Sports Complex and head North onto the course.

  M3 Long Course - Swim & Run

BIKE LONG COURSE (56 miles)

The bike for the Long Course starts at Castaic Lake and includes a 2 loop section near Pyramid Lake before returning to Castaic Lake. The course is categorized as “European Style” for its narrow long climbs, steep descents and epic views.

Despite the word "mountain" in the title, this is an all "road" triathlon (not off-road). Participants should have good bike handling skills for the long climbs and steep descents. It could be the hardest, most technical and ultimately the most rewarding bike course in the US. We invite participants try to pre-ride the bike course with us. Check out the free pre-rides offered on July 23, August 14 and September 24, see details on the General Info page.

There will be 4 "NO-Aerobar Descents" on the bike to maximize participant's safety. The paved road is bumpy on Golden State Highway and participants will need to keep hands on the brake levers to maintain ultimate control. 2 descents on Golden State Highway will be designated this way. The seven mile descent on Ridge Route is narrow and has some sharp turns headed back to Castaic Lake; this section of the course will have the same designation. This is a mandatory rule and participants who violate this rule will be disqualified from the event.
